CITY EVENTS IN SAUDI ARABIA

2nd PORCH Open Invitational Basketball Tournament opening day scheduled this coming July 18, 2008

JUBAIL– Once again, the Pinoy Overseas at Royal Commission Hospital (PORCH) here in Jubail, Saudi Arabia, headed by Mr. Jun Estruche and Mr. Efren Mijares organized the 2nd PORCH Open Invitational Basketball Tournament to be held at Royal Commission Recreation Center Gymnasium, Royal Commission Area, Jubail, Saudi Arabia, to commence this 18th of July 2008.
This sport event was organized through the initiative of the PORCH Officers and members and Filipino employees of the Royal Commission Hospital .
Last year's opening ceremonies was graced by OWWA Welfare Officer Rolando U. Coquia, AFCSCOM Over-all Chairman Mr. Roilo D. Alojado and other Filipino Community leaders. Messrs. Coquia and Alojado both thanked the participating teams and congratulated the organizing committee headed by Mr. Efren Mijares, Chairman Technical Committee, Mr. Jun Estruche, Chairman of Logistic Committee and President of PORCH, Mr. Jun Peronilla, Head Statistican and Mr. Robert Matawaran and Engr. Nasser Ereno, Tournament Directors, for organizing a quality sports activity for the Filipino Community of Jubail.

Welfare Officer Roland U. Coquia, Supervising Welfare Officer - POLO/OWWA Philippine Embassy-ERO, awarding the Best in Uniform Special Award Trophy to Al-Suwaidi SIS team
PORCH’s Members, Mr. Melvin Matawaran and John Paul Tarampi, provided the well applauded opening Dance Number while Mr. Gerry Cal, Himig Pinoy Grand Champion vowed the crowds with his solo performance.
Last year's tournament special awards went to Al Suwaidi SIS team, in their environmentally colored uniform, which took the Best in Uniform Award while Al Muttawa & Sons Team was awarded the Semi-Best (Runner-up) in Uniform.
The said tournament was officially opened by Mr. Mohammed Saleh, Director of Royal Commission Sports & Culture Committee followed by the Ceremonial Tossing of the Ball. The Oath of Sportsmanship was led by Mr. Jaime King, Manager of Al-Suwaidi SIS Team.
In the tournament’s initial game last year, right after the opening ceremonies, Al-Suwaidi SIS Team won 94-82 by pouring back to back baskets and dumped Al Muttawa and Sons Team. Chemanol Team won (88-66) against Fizhott team on the 2nd game.
The tournament which ran for three months was sponsored by the Enjaz Bank, Pansitan Restaurant, Jubail, ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel, McDonalds, Makati LBC Cargo, PC Cargo, RGP Express, Skyfreight Forwarders, Injas -Asia Bank, PNB & RCBC TeleMoney.
Fourteen teams participated in last year's tourney and they were Al Suwaidi Team, Arabian Fal, Chemanol Team, Interconinental Hotel Team, RCH Eagles, Fizhott Team, Al Muttawa & Sons Team, Jubail Boyz Team, Nasser al Hajri Team, Jubail Pirates, Gulfguard Team, Saudi Archirodon and RGP Express Team.
