CASAMAYOR, MARQUEZ MADE THE WEIGHT
by Rod Mijares, www.Fil-AmBoxers.Com, Sept. 12, 2008
There
is no stopping, "The Challenge" the most anticipated boxing event
featuring Cuban born Joel Casamayor and the Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez
as the main header has just passed the scale.
Both of them weight 135 pounds today at the weigh-in for the fight tomorrow at the MGM Grand Arena
at Las Vegas, Nevada. They will be fighting for Casamayor's Ring Magazine World Lightweight Title.
them can not seemed to wait for tomorrow to come.
Casamayor came in fresh from a spectacular win over gutsy Michael Katsidis last March 22, 2008 in Morongo Casino Resort & Spa, Cabazon, California while Marquez could not shake and still could not
believe his loss from Manny Pacquiao last March 15, 2008 at Mandalay Bay and Casino, Las Vegas,
Nevada. Both of them are hoping that the win will destine them to fight the best pound for pound boxer
in the world, Manny Pacquiao, from the Philippines and land them the prestige and the money to fight
the Pacman.
Will the fight be one for the aged as Casamayor just turned 37 years old last July 12 while Marquez just turned 35 years old last August 23? It is a question of stamina and not of skills as both of them proved
their prowess inside the ring with their tremendous amount of time spent in it. It is a question of whose knees will give out first or they will cheat and prove mother nature wrong and attest that there still a lot
of mileage left on both their knees.
On the other side of the fence, back in the East of the country in Beau Rivage Resort, Beloxi, Mississippi, Joan Guzman failed to make the weight while Nate Campbell almost did not make it until the second try which he passed. The fight will continue as a non-title fight and not any belt of Nate Campbell (WBA, WBO and IBF Lightweight Titles at stake).
