By Rod Mijares - Viva Las Vegas Magazine & LV Valley Balita
September 23, 2008

Gino Padilla, Louie Heredia, DJ Bibingkahan Owner Nora Santos, Raymond Lauchengco & Randy Santiago

They arrived at DJ Bibingkahan restaurant in South Maryland Parkway just like you and me as ordinary people in their black and yellow sports jackets each bearing their name.  But their sports jackets did not signify that  they were your typical basketball players as they were only four of them and missing one to complete the five players required to play the regular basketball game.  Also, they were not your typical magicians that are all over Las Vegas Casinos who mesmerize us with their magic, drop our jaw down
and keep our eyes wide open.

These four men are not so ordinary people to their million of fans all over the world.   These gentlemen are their idols who have been in the forefront of our Philippine television, radios, stages theaters and cinemas since the 1980s and they continue to entertain us until now.  Their individual hits captured the hearts and souls of their fans who repeatedly singing those hits as if their own.  Their songs and music see us through the EDSA revolution, inspire us with hope, their songs serenades our girlfriends and wives and their melodies made us relax and enjoyed the bus and jeepney rides going to work and back home.

Fast forward to the millenium, after more than twenty years, these four men who have been performing individually since the 1980s and known each other as friends were united by Viva to form the group, "Men Of The 80s" last May of this year to bring their beautiful music as a group and perform not only in the Philippines but also in other parts of the world, especially, in America where the Filipinos are abound and are thirsty of original Pilipino music of the past decades.  Viva having recognized their individual talents believed in their strong charisma and singing power as a group.

Just a week ago, the "Men Of The 80s," held a successful concert outside of the Philippines on September 20, 2008 at the Palomar Starlight Theater, Pala Casino Spa Resort in San Diego, California.  The concert was so successful, fun and enjoyable for both the performers and the audience that the concert almost ran for almost three hours until the casino management literally pull the plug on them for the concert to stop.

The charming owner of DJ Bibingkahan, Ms. Nora Santos, welcome "Men Of The 80s" Louie Heredia, Randy Santiago, Raymond Lauchengco and Gino Padilla for today's press conference at her restaurant to promote their upcoming concert on September 28, 2008 at the Grand Ballroom of Tropicana Hotel & Casino in the strip.

Las Vegas, the Entertainment Capital of the World is next after San Diego to witness the revival of the singing hits of the 80s on Sunday.   Filipino Las Vegans and their families and friends will be lucky to be part of this power house concert plus the special performance of Jami Morales who will be singing a duet with Gino Padilla.  Las Vegas will be entertained not with the magic of their hands but with the magic of their voices.   Voices so soothing and beautiful that girls, teenagers and even our manong and manang of the 1980s surrendered to their individual repertoire of songs and savory performances.

The Producers, Ronnie Collantes, Joel Liveline & Orland Collantes with David, Beverly Cervero and daughter

After some photo shoots with the fans, Orland Collantes who is co-producing the event introduced the four "Men Of The 80's" individually;  the sponsors and other producers, namely, EE Entertainment, Dee Bee Enterprise, RO Entertainment and Liveline;  also members of the press, Brother John and Leila Mendoza of Las Vegas Valley Balita, Zen Laluna of Philippine Times of Las Vegas, Rod Mijares of Viva Las Vegas Magazine and www.Fil-AmBoxers.com and then he opened the questions and answers portion .

"When we think of the 1980 hits, we think of songs by Michael Jackson, The Police, Guns N Roses, Madonna, George Michael and others.  Also, we will also sing our individual hits like "Hindi Magbabago"  by Randy, "Just a Smile Away" by Gino, "Can't Find No Reason" by Louie and "In My Dream" by me, Raymond said when asked what songs they are going to sing.  "We will be performing medleys as opposed to singing alone individually which will be more lovable."

"We are inviting everybody to enjoy the music of the 1980s with us and we promise that it will be a lot of fun."

"I am so excited to be performing for you with the group and hope that we will be doing this again in the future."

"This is not just a pet project but a project with a purpose and dedication because we put everything to it."

"Come and let us have a party.  Get into the groove"

These are the messages that the "Men Of The 80s" would like to convey to the Filipinos, their families and friends.   They maybe the "Men of the 80s" but their boyish looks which they maintain until now made them the heartthrobs of girls and ladies alike.  The concert by all counts promises to be an evening of unforgettable music, fun and dancing and tickets can be purchased at $39, $59, $79 and $99.  For more information, please call 702-885-2189.
