(A Pinoy Superman in the Making)

June 18 – By Rod Mijares

Will Manny Pacquiao’s momentum carried him to his 4th boxing world division championship and
thus making a history all over again or David Diaz will put a stop to the Filipino Phenomena?

Newly crown WBC Super Featherweight Champion Manny Pacquiao will tangle it out with the
current WBC Lightweight Champion, David Diaz for the latter’s crown on the line on Saturday,
June 28, 2008 at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada dubbed “Lethal
Combination” on a 12-round bout.

So far, Manny Pacquiao has been winning at Mandalay Bay during his last two fights against Marco
Antonio Barrera on October 6, 2007 for the WBC Super Featherweight International Title and second
against Juan Manuel Marquez three months ago on March 15, 2008 when he captured his 3rd world
title as WBC Super Featherweight Champion.

Pacquiao’s next or third fight at Mandalay Bay on June 28, 2008 will test his endurance, strength,
boxing skills and knockout power against a more stable and strong as a rock, David Diaz.

Diaz is a proven champion in the lightweight division, whereas, Pacquiao has just climb the division
and as such, could be considered a new comer.

They are both southpaw. Manny has a half-inch advantage in height but David has a 2-inch
advantage in reach. Although, Manny who is only 29 years old against David who is 32 years old, he
has more fights that he already accumulated 51 fights with 46 wins (35 KO), 3 lost and 2 draws
against only 36 total fights with 34 wins (17 KO), 1 lost and 1 draw to Diaz’ resume.

Also, it should be noted that Pacquiao started his professional career at 105 pounds Minimumweight/ Straweight class) and continuously gaining weight and division titles until his last fight at 130 pounds
(Super Featherweight) three months ago, whereas, Diaz started his career at 140 pounds plus or minus waving to the current of the lightweight and welterweight divisions.

Diaz only lost was against a much taller Kendall Holt at 5' 9", three years ago on February 4, 2005 at
Foxwood Resorts, Connecticut.  He was knockdown on the 1st round but was able to put down his
opponent on the 7th round before losing on a TKO on the 8th round of a scheduled 10 round bout.
Kendall Holt is scheduled to fight Ricardo Torres on July 5, 2008 at Planet Hollywood Resort &
Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada for the WBO Lightwelterweight Title.

For Manny to win this fight, he will not only kiss history but also be considered "Pinoy Superman"
for besting 4 world titles under his belt.

LOS ANGELES, June 6 – After facing the best fighters of his era and becoming the first
fighter of Salvadorian decent to win a world championship, Carlos “Famoso” Hernandez’s
place in boxing history is already secure. But after a year and a half away from the game, Hernandez’s desire to once again wear a world championship belt around his waist has been renewed and he has chosen Golden Boy Promotions as the team to bring him back to the top.

“This is a great moment in my career and I know that with Golden Boy Promotions behind me,
I will not only get the opportunity to fight for a title again, but I will get the big fights I’ve always dreamed of,” said Hernandez, who signed his contract at the Golden Boy Promotions Los
Angeles office on Friday. “I feel rested and better than ever. This break has made me hungry again. The lightweight division needs to look out, because I’m back.”

“Anyone who has followed boxing in the last 15 years knows ‘Famoso’ Hernandez and what he brings to the ring,” said Oscar de la Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. “He is one of
the game’s true warriors and we know he still has what it takes to challenge and beat the best. We’re excited about working with such a great talent and representative of the sport.”

Added Hernandez’ adviser, Greg Leon, “It's an honor to be working with Golden Boy Promotions as their track record speaks for itself. The love of the sport is still flowing through Carlos Hernandez's veins, his competitive fires are burning stronger than ever and he looks forward to proving this starting with his Golden Boy debut. Adding a lightweight championship to his trophy case is one of the things I am confident ‘Famoso’ is capable of doing.”

Carlos Hernandez (42-7-1, 24 KOs), who is of Salvadorian decent and now makes his home
in San Antonio, Texas, is unquestionably one of the most popular lightweights of his time. An
exciting warrior who has a history of providing unforgettable battles, he won the IBF World
Junior Lightweight title in 2003 with an emotional victory over David Santos. He is also remembered for his gallant battles with Floyd Mayweather Jr., Jesus Chavez and Erik Morales, which made him must-see TV for all fight fans. Hernandez took a break from the game in late 2006, but has stayed in shape and later this year will make what is expected to be a triumphant return.

Hernandez’ debut under the Golden Boy Promotions banner will be announced at a later date.
